Team China prepares for the 2010 Weightlifting World Championships

We see a very busy atmosphere as we enter the weightlifting hall at the national training center this afternoon. On the center stage, various Olympic and World champions from the men’s team are showing what they have to offer without a set order. Lu Yong was very upset from a failed snatch attempt. The center stage has a wooden 4 by 4 platform just like at an official competition. We get a closer feel for lifting at a competition on that platform. Today’s condition was pretty average. I feel like my training isn’t culminating to a good condition. Despite this, Lu Yong’s success rate was very high off the platform. His teammates also seem to be in good form. This year’s world championships in Turkey is also a qualifying event for the 2012 Olympics. This year and next year, the team’s in the top 6 will have 6 spots for their own athletes at the Olympics. The very strong Chinese team have little to worry about. For the five weight classes we are competing in, we expect 4-5 gold medals in the total. We are also required to have a success rate of 18 lifts or higher among all our athletes. This is to prepare for 2012. On top of winning, we are also hoping for athletes to increase their totals by 3-5 kilos. In comparison to the busy atmosphere of the men’s team, the women’s side is completely empty. The women’s team is still preparing for the competition in Tianjin. They will be back within the next few days.
The entire team will depart for Turkey next Monday.
