Standing Heel to Butt Reach Stretch – Exercise Demonstration

Standing Heel to Butt Reach Stretch – Exercise Demonstration

This is standing heel to buttock stretch.
The purpose of the standing heal to buttock stretch is to improve your hip
flexor flexibility, which is needed for the backswing. I’m gonna demonstrate with my left. If you’re a right swing that’s where you need flexibility here to get
into that back swing position and also to improve your balance. Balance is
necessary to improve the efficiency of swing motion. It’s necessary to reduce
injuries. It’s necessary for timing and rhythm. So the way we do this exercise is
real simple. I’m gonna have you use a golf club to assist you and you can
progress to dropping the golf club. Stand nice and tall. Good posture, shoulders
back. A little bit of pressure to improve your balance. I’m going to demonstrate
with the left leg. I’m simply gonna pull the left heel to my buttock, tense my
abdominals, squeeze my left buttocks, try to keep the knee in the midline, mistakes
are coming out here, bending and twisting from the waist. Get tall and upright. As
soon as you do that and you maintain a little bit of activation of your core muscles, some tension here and your glutes, you’re gonna feel a stretch
pulling in the front of your thigh here. That’s what you want. We’re gonna hold
that for 15-20 seconds. That’s the stretch. You can see I’m working on
balance of my stance leg, my right, at the same time. Now the progression for some of you as you get better is simply just to let go and hold this. Now I’m really
challenging balance. My outer hip muscles. I lose my balance, I tip, I just try to
again find that balance point. For many of you you’re just gonna simply use the
golf club and that’s fine. Remember change comes with commitment. Stay with the program you’ll see improvement.
