How to use an email address on Facebook without getting banned
The term “cheap” doesn’t necessarily mean “cheapest”, though, as a lot of business card sites have their own guidelines that make it easy for businesses to get around the ban.
One of the most widely used sites is Yelp, which has recently been embroiled in a heated legal battle with a former employee who was forced to delete his personal information after being warned that the company’s terms of service had been violated.
Yelp has since issued a statement stating that it is “not affiliated with the company” and that its policy on personal information is not a matter of law.
These guidelines are likely to come under further scrutiny as we approach the anniversary of Facebook’s banning of an account on the site in August of last year.
But the fact that they exist at all shows that the system is still in place and, in some cases, still making a difference.
“Facebook’s own policies are not the law” and the rules for business card companies are very much still being flouted, says John Barchard, a professor at Harvard Business School.
“People are still using email addresses and using websites and they’re still getting banned,” he says.
It’s worth noting that the majority of businesses are not using Facebook’s system for a good reason.
The rules are being changed as part of the company being bought by Facebook for $1.1 billion (£860 million).
This deal will see Facebook make the site more like Facebook and its competitors like Instagram.
“You are not going to be able to create an account in Facebook without it being a Facebook account,” Barchart says.
“That’s what people are seeing.”
It’s possible that this change will cause more businesses to start using Facebook instead of email.
This will probably happen because there will be less need for an account and more incentive to get one.
The company has also made it easy to use Facebook as a payment method for services like Instagram, and users have been getting their first look at Facebook Pay as an alternative to the likes of PayPal and credit cards.
“It’s like using a credit card on Facebook,” says Barchar.
“So now that the payments are in, people are going to want to use it.”
