Always Be Ready

Always Be Ready

You know you have this little ritual you
have to do before you compete. One of my jobs as your coach is to eliminate that
ritual. And your ritual is going to be a checklist: I have my throwing shoes, I
have a discus, I have my uniform. That’s my ritual. I’m ready I don’t
need to tap myself you know pull my gloves up pull my gloves down pull this
here pull that there because there’s going to come a time, now maybe even get away with it
American baseball, but in most sports, you don’t have time some times to
run through your little ritual. In fact, I tell this to people all the
time, that’s why I love American football. you’ll be standing around picking your
nose and all of a sudden you’ll hear your last name and also, “You’re in!” you know. Someone just got hurt
now you’re playing. Well coach I need to do my 12 minutes of Original Strength, my
yoga, I like to do some breathing crocodile breathing. Yeah well that’s
great. You now have 20 seconds to get out on the field. 15! 10! And that that’s a
real eye opener. So what you want to do is cut. Cut away the nonsense and that to me
is what an athlete does.
